Lidl launches its ‘food saving bag’ and promotes the conscious consumption of fruits and vegetables
A new initiative against food waste that offers customers the opportunity to buy bags of fruit and vegetables that are imperfectly shaped at a discounted price. In addition to combating waste, Lidl will also be supporting Caritas, a local NGO, with a donation of 50 cents from every bag purchased.

The very first Malta National Transport awards ceremony, hosted by Transport Malta together with the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects, concluded with a celebration of innovation and excellence in the transport sector.
This event recognised and honoured outstanding contributions towards improving transportation and mobility in Malta.
The awards were keenly contested, reflecting the diverse and dynamic nature of Malta’s transport sector. The winners, selected through a rigorous, transparent and independent eat, or with slightly damaged packaging. The initiative, which involves all 10 local Lidl stores, will offer the brand’s customers the opportunity to join the fight against food waste by purchasing these special bags of perfectly edible fruits and vegetables that adjudication process by a panel of esteemed experts, demonstrated achievements in their respective fields.
The winners
Infrastructure Category: Malta Public Transport, for its investment in a state-of-the-art electric charging station.
Innovation Category: Active Ageing and Community Care (Silver-T service), for their innovative approach in integrating transport solutions with community care, particularly benefiting the elderly population.
Modal Shift Category: Project Aegle Foundation (sCOOL2walk do not meet the company’s commercial standards anymore.

Sustainability Category: MaltaPost plc (One Delivery project), for their efforts in sustainable delivery methods, significantly reducing carbon emissions and promoting green logistics.
Minister Aaron Farrugia said that this event marked a milestone in Malta’s journey towards a more sustainable, efficient and inclusive transport sector. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to all winners and participants for their tiatives,” comments Marie-Clare Church, Communication & CSR department Lidl Malta. “Thanks to our Food Saving Bag, we intend to promote more conscious consumption and raise awareness among our customers who, in fact, have been able to grasp the spirit of the initiative and show their appreciation from the very beginning.”
The Food Saving Bags are handpicked daily by store staff after a careful selection of products and are placed inside a dedicated cart in the area behind the checkouts. The number of bags available at each store varies depending on the daily availability of suitable products. Each Food Saving Bag contains 4kg of fruits and vegetables and can be purchased at a discounted price of €3. For every bag purchased, €0.50 will be donated to Caritas Malta, a Maltese NGO providing food and essential services to people in need. invaluable contributions, thanking all those who participated and all those who attended for the very first edition of the Malta National Transport Awards.
