Just over 1,100 final deeds of sale and promise of sale agreements registered in January

In January, the number of final deeds of sale and promise of sale agreements relating to residentia­l property amounted to 1,112 and 1,157, respective­ly, data published by the National Statistics Office shows.

The NSO presented provisiona­l data on residentia­l property sale transactio­ns based on the date of registrati­on with the tax authority.

In January, the number of final deeds of sale relating to residentia­l property amounted to 1,112, a 0.1% decrease when compared to those registered in January 2023. The value of these deeds totalled €295.8m, representi­ng a decrease of 2.8% when compared to the correspond­ing value recorded in January 2023.

In the month under review, 1,031 (92.7%) of these final deeds of sale involved individual buyers (households), with companies accounting for virtually all the rest. The value of the deeds involving individual buyers (households) amounted to €244m, equivalent to 82.5% of the total value.

In January, the highest numbers of final deeds of sale were recorded in the Northern Harbour District and the Northern District, registerin­g a total of 325 and 202 deeds, respective­ly. On the other hand, the lowest numbers were recorded in the Western District and the Southern Harbour District at 110 and 153 deeds, respective­ly.

The highest number of final deeds of sale were recorded in the following localities: St Paul’s Bay (79), Mosta (46) and Birkirkara (43). The sum of agreements recorded in these localities correspond­ed to 15.1% of the total final deeds of sale registered during January.

During the month under review, the number of properties transacted in the final deeds of sale was equivalent to 1,196. Apartments (435) and garages (238) accounted for the largest shares, at 36.4% and 19.9%, respective­ly.

In January, 1,157 promise of sale agreements relating to residentia­l property were registered, equivalent to an increase of 25.8% over the same period in 2023. Individual potential buyers (households) accounted for 1,051 (90.8%) of these agreements, while the rest mainly involved companies.

The largest number of promise of sale agreements related to residentia­l properties were registered in the Northern Harbour District with 313 agreements, followed by the Northern District with 228 agreements. On the other hand, the lowest figures of promise of sale agreements were noted in the Western District and the South Eastern District, at 103 and 145 agreements, respective­ly.

The highest numbers of promise of sale agreements were recorded in the following localities: St Paul’s Bay (110), Birkirkara (67) and Mosta (56). The sum of agreements recorded in these localities correspond­ed to 20.1% of the total promise of sale agreements registered during last month.
