GTA’s 25th Annual General Meeting

-

The Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) held its 25th Annual General Meeting last week at the Hotel ta’ Cenc.

In his opening address the GTA Chairman Paul Scicluna stated that the recovery of tourism was also registered in Gozo, with increases coming both from the foreign and domestic markets. He also remarked that although during 2023 tourism in Gozo was back to the pre-pandemic arrivals, yet the sector still faces challenges that need to be addressed. Scicluna noted that the touristic sector feels that the over development in Gozo is killing the goose that lay the golden egg. Another problem being encountered by tourism operators is the increases in operating expenses, which if not tackled properly can reduce the competitive edge of the destination. Furthermore Scicluna also stressed the need to maintain the authenticity of the Gozitan touristic product, especially through a trained and skilled labour force.

The GTA’s Chief Executive Officer, Joe Muscat then delivered an audio-visual presentation on the performance of the Association during 2023.
