Valencia loses 2 straight to start season
Valencia slumped to a second consecutive loss to start the Spanish league after falling at Eibar 1-0 yesterday.
This latest defeat comes with the club close to selling Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi to Arsenal, and Barcelona negotiating to sign away striker Paco Alcacer. Neither player was on Valencia’s team at Eibar.
New Eibar midfielder Pedro Leon finished off the rebound of his own penalty in the 62nd minute after Valencia goalkeeper Mathew Ryan blocked his initial spot kick. Aymen Abdennour conceded the penalty after handling the ball in the area.
Valencia lost its home opener to Las Palmas 4-2 last weekend.
Elsewhere, Real Sociedad won at Osasuna 2-0 thanks to Juanmi Jimenez’s goal in firsthalf injury time and a late own goal by Unai Garcia.
