Iconic Azure Window loses another chunk
Gozo’s iconic Azure Window recently lost another sizeable chunk, as can be seen from this photograph taken last week.
Geologists believe it is only a question of time before the entire rock formation in Dwejra, a mustsee Gozitan tourist attraction, collapses altogether. Fishermen reportedly no longer take their boats anywhere near the formation nowadays.
Back in April 2012 a sizeable part of the seaward side of the iconic Azure Window collapsed. A deep fissure, like the one in this photograph, had long been visible on the side of the arch where the collapse occurred but, despite the obvious danger and the warning signs put up to stop people from walking across it, dozens do so every day.
