Over 100 students from 16 nations graduate in health care

The CareMalta Academy held another graduation in which 118 students received certificat­es after having successful­ly completed courses leading to City & Guilds qualificat­ions in healthcare. Students came from 16 nations from across all continents.

Welcoming students in their own language, Mr Charlo Bonnici, Director of HR and Communicat­ions and Principal of the Academy announced that in the forthcomin­g academic year, the CareMalta Academy in conjunctio­n with MCAST will be starting two new courses leading to a level 4 advanced certificat­e in healthcare and a level 3 award in disability studies respective­ly. Later on during the year the Academy is also planning to start another course leading to a certificat­e in dementia care. Mr Bonnici also announced that in the next academic year the Academy will also hold three other courses leading to the City & Guilds diploma in health care and the specialise­d diploma in healthcare.

CareMalta CEO Natalie Briffa Farrugia said that since starting courses in 2010 more than 640 students qualified from the Academy. Most of the grandaunts today work with CareMalta which today employs more than 1000 persons and cares from over 1,300 elderly residents. Mrs Briffa Farrugia also said that a number of other graduates work within the public and private sector in Malta making CareMalta a contributo­r to an overall improvemen­t in care standards in Malta and Gozo. She also pointed out that the introducti­on of a course leading to a qualificat­ion in disability studies marks the entry of the Vassallo Group into the disability sector. The Group will be opening a new respite home in Mosta, Casa Apap Bologna in the coming weeks.

On this occasion Mrs Briffa Farrugia officially launched the new CareMalta website www.caremalta.com developed by HIVE Ltd. The website also includes a section dedicated to the Academy through which those interested in joining one of the courses may apply.
