WH Partners has announced that Samuel Gauci has joined WH Partners as a Senior Associate.
Dr Gauci joins WH Partners from the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) where for the past six years he formed part of the MGA’s Legal Directorate, ultimately taking on role of Head of Legal Affairs. At the MGA, Dr Gauci and his team were responsible for legal queries and matters referred to the Legal Directorate from within the MGA, and from consultants, advisers and licensees. In the months prior to his departure from the MGA, Dr Gauci also temporarily assumed the position of Acting Chief Officer – Authorisations with responsibility for all matters pertaining to licensing, requests for approvals, renewals and terminations of licensees. Sam’s experience covers remote and land-based gaming both from a legal and practical perspective.
Prior to joining the MGA, Dr Gauci led the legal team at the Government Property Division, in which role he advised the Commissioner of Land (CoL) on all legal matters related to government-owned property and represented the CoL in litigation before the Courts of Malta.
Dr Gauci graduated from the University of Malta in 2005 as a Doctor of Laws and was admitted to the Bar the following year.
James Scicluna, partner at WH Partners, commented: “Apart from having a wealth of experience in the gaming and betting industry Sam is a sound lawyer. His knowledge of matters re- lated to dealing with government and the public administration generally will boost our firm’s well-established practice in the gaming and betting industry and provide invaluable support, input and advice across a number of other areas for the benefit of our firm’s clients. We are delighted that he has joined our team.”
Dr Gauci said: “After over 10 years as a lawyer working in the public sector, I welcome the opportunity to move to private practice with a firm known to be on the cutting edge of the industries that it services, and which is also highly regarded by regulators. I look forward to working with my colleagues at WH Partners for many years to come and contributing to add value to WH Partners and our clients’ businesses.”
