Gallant Melita block Mqabba

-

Mqabba Melita 0 0

Mqabba had to settle for a draw yesterday as Melita put in a gallant and crafty defensive to display to snatch an important point.

Mqabba were the better team in the first half, but they had nothing to show at the intervall for their vast superiority.

To be fair Mqabba did not create much in the first half even though they constantly held the upper hand with Melita playing a waiting game in their own half.

Mqabba’s best chance came close to the half hour mark, when one of their best Claudio Calleja failed to connect in front of goal.

Earlier a Paul Chimezie shot on the turn slightly missed the cross- bar and just before the break goalkeeper Kurt Rizzo managed to grasp the ball in extremis after fumbling it on Lyden Micallef’s shot.

In the second period Mqabba continued to dictate but Rizzo only had to make a great save early in the second half, with Melita even going near a dramatic winner through Borg Olivier late in the game.
