Gharghur make it with late comeback

Gharghur returned to winning ways yesterday after their 1-6 drubbing against Senglea, scoring two late goals to beat Pieta 21, in a rather timid match.

For Pieta Hotspur this was the first defeat of the season and the two goals suffered were the first conceeded by Patrick Curmi’s side.

The match failed to lift off with Pieta looking more aggressive but shots at goal were nowher to be seen.

The first attempt came from Gharghur after 25 minutes when Fagbeja’s shot on the turn was blocked by the Pieta custodian and from the rebound Cesar da Silva hit the crossbar.

Just before the break Pieta forged ahead with a great header from central defender Christian Grech.

Gharghur were slightly better in the second half, but Pieta looked well covered at the back.

However after hitting the woodwork through substitute Sciberras, Gharghur obtained the equaliser on 81 minutes when Keith Fedele headed home a Lima Nilolav corner.

Gharghur continued to pres forward in search of the winner and three minutes they reached their goal when Muda Fagbeja beat the Pieta custodian with a shot on the turn from the edge of the area.

Pieta tried to react to save the match but to no avail, as they had to succomb to their first defeat.
