Maltese photographer scoops international award
The Societies of Photographers have announced the 26 category winners and the overall winner of their 2016 Photographer of the Year Awards, and amongst the winners was Maltese photographer Darrin Zammit Lupi
Mr Zammit Lupi was awarded the coveted Photographer of the Year by The Societies during the Awards Dinner at their annual Convention and London Photo Show. Over 400 guests were present at the Awards Dinner in London Saturday 14 January.
The judges commented, “This image captures geometry combined with a definitive moment. The gentleman in the hat is a wonderful focal point.”
In addition to receiving his trophy Mr Zammit Lupi also walked away with a Fujifilm XT2 Camera with XF518-55mm Lens and a fully paid ticket to the WPPI Convention in Las Vegas with a flight and five nights accommodation valued at of £3,200.
Mr Zammit Lupi comments, “A night I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Awarded 1st Place Overall Photographer of the Year 2016, as well as Street Photographer of the Year, at The Societies for Photographers in London.”
He continues “The photo which clinched it was taken a few months ago at the entrance to Valletta.”
The competition is a truly in- ternational success with 10,468 entrants from all four corners of the globe entering via monthly categories from nature, architectural, landscapes, sport, monochrome...to all styles of wedding and portraiture.
