Kumpanija Teatrali Dumnikani Beltin to stage ‘Vera Ikona’
Since 1974, Kumpanija Teatrali Dumnikani Beltin has worked passionately towards organising a performance based on the passion of the Christ during Holy Week. This drama piece can be considered as one of the oldest of its sorts in Malta and has always showcased elaborate costumes which complement the spectacular stage scenes, highend music quality and visual effects. During the past years Kumpanija Teatrali Dumnikani Beltin has included wellknown actors and has also served as a platform for new and upcoming performers.
This year the performance has been entitled Vera Ikona and three performances will be held at the Dominican hall in Valletta which is rich in history as the hall itself is a crypt beneath the church which goes back hundreds of years.
The play has been expertly written by Etienne Micallef who previously wrote well received performances such as Mnara Dawl and S-Sigra tal-Hajja. The director of the play is Frank Micallef who has a long history in related performances. During this year’s play we shall be introduced to Serafija, her husband Sirak and their daughter Afra who will all be influenced by the life of Jesus Christ. Al- though, this drama piece is set in the era of Jesus Christ it will still explore issues that are prominent in today’s day and age, such as domestic violence, family disputes and disability. Who is the real Serafija? What will happen to Serafija’s family after meeting the powerful figure of Jesus Christ?
Performances will be held on Monday, 10 and Wednesday, 12 April at 7.15pm and Friday, 14 April (Good Friday) at 9.30am at the Dominican hall, Merchant Street, Valleta. Tickets can be purchased from Joe Zammit by phoning on 9945 1909.
