Bicycle Sundays by nextbike

-

Starting on Sunday 2 April, nextbike will be putting together a number of interesting thematic bicycle rides aiming to explore different aspect of Malta’s cultural, natural and historic landscapes.

The first of the ‘nextbike Sundays’ will be a 17km natural trail ride along the centre region known more of its over-development than for its natural features.

Twelve spots are available and nextbike Sundays events will be free for anyone holding a nextbike membership subscription. Pay-as-you-Go nextbike users will be charged €10 to their nextbike account.

The Nature Trail Tour will familiarise the participants with the lesser known geographical and historical features of the centre region. Starting from the nextbike Xwieqi Station in San Gwann, the tour crosses Wied Għomor and Wied il-Kbir and passes through Tal-Ibraġ and Madliena settlements. Along the route, the magnificent scenery of Wied idDis and Wied il-Faħam can be appreciated together with Fort Madliena, a historical landmark that is still in use.

The tour continues along the countryside and small settlement of Baħar ic-Ċagħaq to follow a coastal road from where views of the rugged coastline can be observed. The last part of the tour explores the coastal area of Pembroke with its historical and natural features including Madliena Tower and the vast expanses of garigue.

The tour ends at any one of the official nextbike stations in St Julian’s. The tour is led by an avid cyclist, geography lecturer and nature lover.

The tour will take two and a half hours, starting at 3.30pm with a medium level of difficulty, and weather permitting. Participation will be on first come first served basis and tickets can be obtained through: www.eventbrite.com/e/ nextbike-sundays- nature- trail- ride- tickets32987461385 or from nextbike’s facebook page: www.facebook.com/nextbike.mt/.
