Ten-man Melita beat Fgura with a Luke Micallef brace to practicall­y condemn Fgura to second division football next season.

Melita held the upper hand in the early stages with Luke Micallef going close with a grounder. On twelve minutes Melita took the lead when Luke Micallef first timed beautifull­y home a cross from the left flank.

After this setback Fgura ventured forward in search of the equaliser and went close on the half hour when Chircop passed to Frendo who was denied by a splendid Rizzo save.

Minutes later a Manuel Caruana shot just missed the target as Fgura continued to attack.

Melita almost doubled the score on 36 minutes with an Alan Borg Olivier shot missing the base of the upright.

Just before the break Fgura missed a great chance with a Barbosa Da Silveira header from close range going over the bar.

Eight minutes into the second half Melita were reduced to ten men when Aiden Mizzi was sent off for a foul on De fex Marriaga.

Fgura continued to attack with Okpokwu missing a great chance on 72 minutes, but in stoppage time Melita sealed the issue when Axl Xuereb was floored by Uzeh and from the penalty spot Luke Micallef fired home.
