Airport Impressions front man Errol Sammut launches special song for autism awareness

-

Singer/songwriter and Airport Impressions front man Errol Sammut launched his debut single as solo artist, ‘Burton’s Song’, for The Marigold Foundation last Friday.

This special track was inspired by his nephew, Burton, and to help raise awareness for autism. Errol was thrilled to get involved and pen a song to honour his nephew who has Aspergers Syndrome, a condition on the autism spectrum. ‘Burton’s Song’, which touches on both the heartache of the disorder and as well as a never give up attitude with al- ways a hope for better treatment, is the anthem for this year’s Malta Autism Awareness Month which is taking place worldwide in the month of April. The lyrics were motivated by the way Burton sees the world and reflected in this passionate, haunting and thought-provoking composition.

When asked about the song’s inspiration, Errol remarked, “While I sat jamming away on an acoustic at my parent’s apartment, Burton suddenly turned his attention entirely to me, something that had never happened before. He came slowly and started humming and also tried strumming the guitar as I played away. It was the birth of the hook that made the song and so I wrote the lyrics to signify a moment and named it Burton’s song. It is his song completely.”

Hopes are this special song will touch the many families worldwide affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders and other special needs and goal is to spread the message to never give up and keep hope alive for those families who work tirelessly for the quality of life for their children.

While Airport Impressions is re currently working on new songs, Errol stated that this was the right platform to showcase the debut song as a solo singer/songwriter. Errol is applying the finishing touches to the ‘Burtons song’ at Jagged House Studios together with producer Howard Keith, who has already worked with Airport Impressions on both albums ‘Minutes of a Lifetime’ as well as ‘Mariette.’ The release of the track ‘Burton’s Song’ will hit the airwaves on 17 April.

Last Friday, 31 March, and for the fourth consecutive year, The Marigold Foundation joined Autism Speaks and Autism Europe for ‘The Light it Up Blue’ Campaign in Aid of the Association of Parents of Children with Autism. The event took place at the Cittadella in Gozo and was the exclusive live premiere of ‘Burton’s Song’.

Chairperson of The Marigold Foundation and wife of the Prime Minister, Michelle Muscat, said that Marigold is very excited for this fourth edition of ‘Light it up Blue’, which will serve as a platform to illuminate, donate and advocate to make April’s Autism Month Blue.
