Ta’ Qali site for Malta Motor Recreation and Education Park
After an announcement on the above project by Priminister Dr Joseph Muscat on Friday, the Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) and the Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) issued the following statements:
MMF statement
The Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) has stated that Ta’ Qali has been identified as the ideal site for the development of the Malta Motor Recreation and Education Park.
The Federation, along with the motorsport community, has welcomed this news with great excitement and looks forward in assisting further this positive decision as it is high time that this National Project is delivered, after all the work that has been carried out by the Office of the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport together with the Federation and various stake- holders throughout the past years.
The Federation is seeking further information about the exact location and area of the land that has been allocated within the development zone at Ta’ Qali. This, it claims, is imperative as the site must be of adequate size to host this project.
Statement by ASMK
A statement from the Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) yesterday said that the promised Ta’ Qali footprint for the track (Motor Recreation and Education Park) is already allocated for another project.
It said the site in question is in fact part of an agreement, including a deed, signed between the Government of Malta, the MFCC and the ASMK on 20 January 2012.
The ASMK said it is surprised to get to know about the Prime Minister’s statement especially since the binding deed had been signed and sealed.
ASMK is strongly hoping that the Prime Minister’s announcement was the result of either a mistake or incorrect information and appeals to Prime Minister Dr. Muscat to clear the matter at his earliest convenience.
In the two statements, both the MMF and the ASMK appealed to both parties not to use this project for political advantage.
