Art Links by the Gabriel Caruana Foundation
The Gabriel Caruana Foundation, established in 2016 as a Voluntary Organisation (VO1236), aims to preserve and promote the modern and contemporary artistic heritage and legacy of Maltese artists through a number of initiatives and projects. One of the projects, Art Links, aims to further the discussion and awareness on modern and contemporary art in Malta. The project includes the development of the Foundation's website and talks on art research, cultural heritage legislation and intellectual property rights.
The Gabriel Caruana Foundation has invited Dr Jeanine Rizzo to give the final talk of the Art Links project. Dr Rizzo is a lawyer graduated from the University of Malta who has furthered her studies in the fields of intellectual property law and art & antiquity law at Masters level at University College London. While in London she was a research assistant to Professor Norman Palmer, carrying out research on the law of bailment and on art law. Upon her return to Malta, she built a practice in intellectual property law and art law at Fenech & Fenech Advocates in Valletta. Jeanine is a Senior Associate at Fenech & Fenech Advocates and specialises in Copyright (both new and old media), trademarks, patents, design rights, entertainment law, music law and film law. Her ex- perience has taken her into the depth of the creative industries with tailored legal expertise to all matters concerning the industry. She is also a lecturer and examiner at the University of Malta, is frequently published writing about the subject and a member of the Chamber of Commerce RTDI Committee.
The final talk will focus on intellectual property rights and the artist. The talk is open to the public, and is free of charge. Artists, researchers, students and gallery owners and cultural operators are encouraged to attend.
The talk will be held on Wednesday 26 July, starting at 7pm, at the Mill Arts, Culture and Crafts centre in Birkirkara, refreshments will be served following the talk. Admission is free; however, places are limited and registration is required.
