Mġarr hous­ing estate gets an em­bel­lish­ment

Trans­port, In­fra­struc­ture and Cap­i­tal Projects Min­is­ter Ian Borg yes­ter­day in­au­gu­rated em­bel­lish­ment work by the Works and In­fra­struc­ture Depart­ment in the area sur­round­ing the hous­ing estate in Mġarr.

The project was aimed at ren­o­vat­ing this pub­lic area af­ter de­signs had been ap­proved by the Plan­ning Au­thor­ity and a per­mit was sub­se­quently is­sued.

In­fras­truc­tural and em­bel­lish­ment work was car­ried out by govern­ment work­ers, while tiling work was han­dled by a pri­vate con­trac­tor cho­sen through ex­pres­sions of in­ter­est.

Walls that had suf­fered con­sid­er­able wa­ter dam­age and had also been af­fected by tree roots were re­placed with new dou­ble walls that have been treated with mem­brane to pre­vent wa­ter dam­age and guard against dam­age from tree roots. In ad­di­tion, all the walls have been re­painted.

The Min­is­ter com­mended the work done by this govern­ment depart­ment and spoke about the im­por­tance of con­stantly im­prov­ing pub­lic areas, both in terms of aes­thetic qual­ity and also with re­gard to se­cu­rity, sus­tain­abil­ity and ac­ces­si­bil­ity.
