Dog Walk and donation in aid of the Island Sanctuary

Prohealth employees made some new furry friends at the Island Sanctuary on Sunday 22 October during a dog walk organised by the company’s Social Committee. As part of the initiative, Prohealth also collected a sum of €125 for the sanctuary, which the company directors rounded up to €200.

A group of fourteen people headed towards the Island Sanctuary dog shelter at Fort Tas-Silg in Delimara, on Sunday morning. There, we were warmly welcomed by Gloria, Michelle, and a handful of other volunteers, as well as by the excited barks of the resident dogs.

As we were handed our individual dogs for the walk, it was easy to see the excitement on their faces, making it doubly hard not to want to take one of them home right there and then. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, including the pups, who unfortunately do not get to go out much.

Gloria explained that due to circumstances outside of the sanctuary’s control, the Sunday dog walks have stopped, and so the volunteers try not to miss a chance when somebody asks to organize a walk.

All the dogs at the Island Sanctuary are very well loved and taken care of: in the morning they are fed, given their medications (if necessary), and let out to run in small groups for half an hour. In the afternoon, all the dogs are given some individual attention, so that the volunteers can get to understand and know them better. They are also given lots of yummy treats and goodies!
