The Malta Cultural Institute to present its sixth concert of the MCI 2017/8 Season

-

The first part of the MCI concert, which will be held at the G. F. Abela Junior College Theatre, Msida on Sunday, 25 March at 7pm will be presenting Serbian cellist Kristina Dimić. Kristina holds a Bachelor’s Degree from a Higher Music School in Serbia in violincello playing and teaching and in Child Psychology. She spent many years teaching cello playing and general music in Belgrade and Pancevo, Serbia. She also prepares students for international Chamber competitions. During this concert, Kristina will be assisted in her performance by Max-Imre Mikovic, a sound engineer, who graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Art (Sound Production) in Zagreb, Croatia.

The second part of the concert will be dedicated to the full ballet The Fairy Doll, which will be performed by the students of Helen Keith School of Ballet to choreography by Helen Keith and music by Josef Bayer. The Fairy Doll or Die Puppenfee premiered at the Vienna Court Opera on 4 October 1888. It owes its inspiration to E.T.A Hoffman’s 1815 story The Sandman in which a mechanical doll comes to life. It was a great success and is still being performed today. Anna Pavlova danced her version of The Fairy Doll on her worldwide tours in the 1920s.

The MCI painting exhibition for February will feature works by Elena Toncheva, a Bulgarian artist based in Malta.

The co-ordination and presentation of the concert will be in the hands of Dame Mro Marie Therese Vassallo.

Free Parking will be available for guests in the grounds of the Junior College during the concert. The Junior College Theatre has lift facilities, providing easy access for guests with special needs.

All are invited to attend. A donation at the door is requested, to help cover some of the expenses of the MCI and the use of the Junior College Theatre. More information may be obtained by phoning the MCI director on 2133 8923, 9980 0409 or by sending an email to maltacultinst@gmail.com
