Pembroke Qormi 0 1

Qormi made another bold step towards promotion to the top flight with a hard earned victory over a now demotivated Pembroke side. Withou producing one of their best peformances, the league leaders were still good enough to emerge worthy winners.

The game was decided at the start of the second half when Gusman scored a spectacular goal with an overhead kick, a goal that deserved the winning of the three points. Qormi were not that sharp even though apart from the goal scored the hit the post twice.

Pembroke were again disappointing as they confirmed they are passing through a very difficult moment, and yesterday they practically had no attempts at goal.

Qormi found the going hard in the first half as Pembroke defended well with Qormi’s only chance coming on 25 minutes when a Tensior Gusman header from close range smashed against the crossbar. Pembroke where found wanting in attack and Jamie Azzopardi had a very quite first fourty five minutes.

In the second half Qormi were more aggressive and direct in their approach towards goal and in the opening minutes went close with a Caetano Da Silva header and a freekick from the same player.

On 56 minutes Qormi took the lead when Tensior Gusman scored a spectacular goal with an overhead kick following a cross from the right by Dejan Vukovic. Pembroke had a Warren Chircop header testing Azzopardi and on 77 minutes Qormi went close with a Matombo run on the right flank, with his cross finding Zammit in an ideal position, but his effort was blocked by defender Borg.

On 90 minutes Qormi went close a second goal but Caetano Da Silva’s header finished against the base of the upright.
