‘Darkness to light’ choral recital at Our Lady of Victory Church
The choir of Lincoln College, Oxford, will be giving a choral recital entitled Darkness to light at the Church of Our Lady of Victories, Valletta on Tuesday, 10 April at 7.30pm. The event is being organised by Din l-Art Helwa in collaboration with Maestro di Cappella Hamish Dustagheer and Monsignor Victor Zammit McKeon, pro rector of St John’s Co-Cathedral.
The programme, specially chosen to express the transition between Lent and the glory of the Resurrection, will also feature the newly restored 18C Positivo Organ of the church and incudes excerpts from Bruckner − Christus Factusest, Bairstow − Let all Mortal Flesh, Gibbons − Almighty and Everlasting God, Monteverdi – Adoramuste Christe, Tye − Gloria (from MissaEuge Bone), Taverner − Dum Transisset, Paulus − The Road Home, Macmillan − O Radiant Dawn. The choir of Lincoln College holds a reputation as one of the finest mixed-voice chapel choirs at the University of Oxford. Containing between 16 and 18 members, the choir gives talented singers the opportunity to make music in an intimate setting. During term time, the choir’s modest commitment includes a weekly Sunday evensong and Wednesday evening rehearsal, with the occasional additional service for major church and college feast days. This allows the choir to pursue exciting concert and touring schedules outside of the busy university term time.
Reservations are possible with a donation of €20 per person to Din l-Art Helwa, 133 Melita Street, Valletta VLT 1123, through the website dinlarthelwa.org/donations or directly from the church of Our Lady of Victories, Valletta. Proceeds will be in aid dedicated to Din l-Art Helwa’s restoration programme for the church.
