“Employees deserve the highest respect for their work and we need to ensure transparent working conditions for all workers. I will be working to ensure that the rights of Maltese workers are duly reflected in this legislation intended to strengthen the current legal rights of employees, while safeguard- ing our businesses from unnecessary burden,” said MEP Francis Zammit Dimech. He was speaking during a conference entitled Impjieg ahjar – Impjieg li jixraqlek organised by Solidarjeta Haddiema Partit Nazzjonalista (SHPN) live on Radio 101 during which he revealed that this week the EPP Group appointed him as rapporteur regarding a report seeking transparent and predictable working conditions in the European Union.

Zammit Dimech referred to how this report will look into various important aspects with respect to working conditions, including workers’ contracts, probation periods, the possibility of parallel employment (the right of employees to work for more than one em- ployer), working hours and training for employees. The intention is to protect workers especially those who are vulnerable. He said that, as he has been doing in the months since being elected to the European Parliament, he will be meeting all those involved, including representatives of worker, as well as businesses – including small, medium and micro enterprises – to ensure that their views are reflected in such legislation.

He thanked all those who are constantly meeting him to express their views on various topics and promised to continue serving as the voice of the people of Malta and Gozo in the European Parliament, which is the Parliament to protect the people of all member states of the European Parliament.
