Altaro software beats industry giants to win ‘Company of the Year’ at International Storage Awards 2018

-

Altaro, a Malta-based software developer, scooped a major international award at the 2018 Storage Awards held in Central London, England this month, winning the Editor’s Choice – Company of the Year, despite stiff competition from many larger global players.

Altaro was founded in Malta, where it is headquartered. With 80 employees worldwide, Altaro is far smaller than a number of the other companies competing in the awards, which have 1000+ employees. Yet, Altaro pipped several multi-national competitors to the post, winning this prestigious award over overseas companies many times its size

The Storage Awards recognize the latest and greatest in innovation, excellence and user experience from the global storage industry and took place over five months of nomination and finalist voting. More than 47,000 online votes were cast across various categories.

Altaro was one of the contenders through its easy-to-use and affordable backup solutions for small and mid-market businesses (SMBs), Altaro VM Backup.

Talking about the win, Altaro Cofounder and CEO, David Vella said: “It’s great to be formally recognized by The Storage Awards and the editorial team at Storage Magazine as Company of the Year. Through our offering, high performance virtual backup is now accessible for all - without functionality and price restric- tions. We are turning the virtual backup market on its head and the Award endorses that. It is a proud moment for all the Altaro team to have our work and efforts validated in this way.”

Explaining his selection of Altaro as Company of the Year, Dave Tyler, editor of Storage Magazine commented: “In Altaro, I see a relatively young company displaying a confidence that belies the size of their business: and with a 99 per cent customer satisfaction rating, it’s clear that I’m not the only one who thinks they’re doing something right. As SMEs in particular demand ever more featurerich VM backup solutions, Altaro is very well positioned to exploit their expertise in areas such as deduplication, where they lead the field.”

More than 300 participants attended the awards ceremony at the Tower Hotel on 14 June.

With offices in Malta, the UK, the US, Macedonia and Germany, Altaro counts more than 40,000 businesses located in some 121 countries as its customers, and operates through a worldwide network of more than 7,000 reselling partners who recommend Altaro to their customers. Its larger customers include Microsoft, Xerox, Discover Channel, Amazon, Thomson Reuters and Peugeot among others.

Altaro was recently named EY World Entrepreneur of The Year: Rising Star 2017 and last year won the awards ‘CIO Applications Top 25 Microsoft Solution Providers 2017’ and ‘CRN 2017 Tech Innovator Award’ among others.
