Eden Leisure Group donates funds to Nature Trust

-

In a two-fold bid to offer great cinematic content as well as to continue their commitment to help the environment, the Eden Leisure Group organized a free screening of the film The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine at the Eden Cinemas. Viewers were not charged for their ticket, instead they were asked for a donation with all proceeds going to Nature Trust. The event was a success and €720 was raised. All proceeds will go to raising public awareness and protecting the recently laid turtle nest at Gnejna Bay.

Eden Leisure Group’s Director of Operations, Kate De Cesare said: “We are committed to being leaders in our field, both in terms of the services we offer but also our commitment to do our part for the environment. This we do by creating awareness and by adopting greener practices within the company. By teaming up with Nature Trust on this latest initiative, we hope we have been able to contribute to raising public awareness on the conservation requirements needed for turtles to be able to flourish in our wa- ters undisturbed.”

Vincent Attard, Executive President/CEO of Nature Trust said: “On behalf of Nature Trust I would like to thank Eden Leisure Group for this fantastic initiative and the funds they raised. This has come at the right time when our NGO is planning a major project related to the Wildlife Rehab centre where we are already saving and rehabilitating injured wildlife. In the past, Eden Leisure Group have helped our organisation in marine rescue, therefore we owe them a big thank you for choosing us for their new initiative yet again.

Turtles are an endangered species on an international level and face a wide variety of problems including pollution, marine litter, climate change and boat hits. Nature Trust rescues around 50 turtles a year that are injured or sick in Maltese waters and each turtle rehabilitation costs the NGO an average of €600-€1000. It is for these reasons that Eden Leisure Group has opted to collaborate with Nature Trust.
