Express Trailers’ social events continue to promote Malta’s heritage and legacy
● Summer social event at Saluting Battery and Lascaris War Rooms
Express Trailers continued its annual trend of combining entertainment with history and cultural appreciation when it held its annual employee summer social event at the Saluting Battery at Upper Barrakka Gardens. Employees and their families also had the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the underground vaults beneath Barrakka Gardens and the Lascaris War Rooms, all managed by Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna (FWD).
Express Trailers started this trend a few years ago when it had the opportunity to support FWA with the transportation of a number of cannons from the UK to Malta.
“This relationship with Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna made us realise that we could go beyond providing logistics support and that we could also be contributing to FWA’s cause of promoting and instilling greater appreciation of Malta’s historic legacy among our own employees. In fact, we started organising our annual summer and Christmas social gatherings at historic venues which always include a historic tour of the site,” Franco Azzopardi, chairman and CEO of Express Trailers explained.
Past social events organised by Express Trailers were held at venues such as Fort Rinella, Bighi Naval Hospital, Fort St Angelo and Zabbar Gate in Vit- toriosa among others. Last year, the company also participated in a national clean-up event and was assigned the St Thomas Tower in Marsascala.
“We also appreciate that military sites had a logistics role to play in the success of warfare and military campaigns. Indeed, the best logistics setups often determined battles and wars. As a transport and logistics company, our association with military and historic sites is becoming a natural association for us and indirectly, an opportunity to support the very important work conducted by NGO’s such as Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna,” Azzopardi added.
