The Malta Independent on Sunday
Sleepover at Għar Dalam
Heritage Malta is offering an opportunity to enjoy the cultural and natural heritage in the vicinity of Għar Dalam Cave in a different atmosphere and to sleep in the open air in a safe and tranquil environment starting this Sunday.
Participants will walk through Wied Dalam valley to the remains of a Roman villa and underground cistern of Ta’ Kaċċatura, as well as cart-ruts, tombs and a dolmen. In the vicinity one also finds Casa Ipolitto, a derelict 17th century farmhouse.
Participants will also be able to visit the bronze age temple of Borġ in-Nadur and Għar Dalam Cave. Along the way participants will learn about the night fauna of the Maltese islands, such as bats and moths while listening to the sounds made by various species of crickets.
Refreshments, in the form of a light evening meal and breakfast, will be served.
Participants are advised to wear suitable shoes since the tour involves walking on rough terrain in the dark. Sleepover participants should bring their own sleeping bag, mattress or small tent as well as a water bottle and a torchlight. Participants can sleep either in the open air within the Għar Dalam grounds or inside the museum.
The number of tickets available is limited and booking is on a firstcome first-served basis. Tickets for the price of €25 for adults, €21 for seniors, students and children, and €20 for Heritage Malta members are available from all Heritage Malta museums and sites and online from the agency’s website www.heritagemalta.org.
This exciting experience is currently being held and will come to an end next Sunday at 8am.
