Promotion favourites Zejtun Corinthians started their quest foir their first ever promotion to the top flight on the wrong foot as they were blocked to a draw by a solid and compact Zebbug side.
Zejtun were surely the better team overall, but they simply failed to turn their superiority into goals and near the end they were made to pay as the Rangers obtained the equaliser.
Zejtun were always in control of the proceedings even in the first half which was a rather low key affair.
However Zejtun had the better chances but had to wait till five minutes into the second half to break the deadlock through Brooke Farrugia.
This goal was set to open all possibilities for Zejtun to wrap the match with a second goal.
But they failed to do so even though they had a couple of good opportunities.
Six minutes from time Zebbug obtained a dramatic equaliser thanks to a Stve Schembri header.
Zejtun pushed desperately for the winner in the remaining minutes and almost snatched it, but Sato’s jheader just missed the upright by a whisker.
