Talk on heraldry and nobility in Malta

-

Heraldry and nobility are subjects that always fascinate, and Malta’s past is full of interest and intrigue when it comes to Malta’s nobility. In his illustrated lecture about heraldry and nobility in Malta, Dr Charles Gauci will give the reasons for the introduction of titles in Malta, their origins and the status of the nobility today. Dr Gauci will delve into heraldry, showing how a typical coat-of-arms is composed, and how these differ around the world when compared to Malta. Participants will also hear interesting and amusing anecdotes about Maltese noble families.

Dr Gauci is a semi-retired consultant in pain medicine and a lecturer in human anatomy at the University of Malta. He has been writing about various aspects of the Maltese nobility since the late 1970s and signed copies of his latest book The Peerage and Knightage in Malta will be on sale after the talk. The Peerage is packed with details about Maltese nobility (with full information about each title), about the two Maltese Prince-Cardinals, about connections between the British peerage and baronetage and Malta as well as the bone fide foreign titles to be found in Malta.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday, 14 November at 6.30pm at the Phoenicia Hotel, Floriana. Participants are requested to be seated by 6.15pm. The lecture will be conducted in English.
