Talk on her­aldry and no­bil­ity in Malta

Her­aldry and no­bil­ity are sub­jects that al­ways fas­ci­nate, and Malta’s past is full of in­ter­est and in­trigue when it comes to Malta’s no­bil­ity. In his il­lus­trated lec­ture about her­aldry and no­bil­ity in Malta, Dr Charles Gauci will give the rea­sons for the in­tro­duc­tion of ti­tles in Malta, their ori­gins and the sta­tus of the no­bil­ity to­day. Dr Gauci will delve into her­aldry, show­ing how a typ­i­cal coat-of-arms is com­posed, and how th­ese dif­fer around the world when com­pared to Malta. Par­tic­i­pants will also hear in­ter­est­ing and amus­ing anec­dotes about Mal­tese no­ble fam­i­lies.

Dr Gauci is a semi-re­tired con­sul­tant in pain medicine and a lec­turer in hu­man anatomy at the Uni­ver­sity of Malta. He has been writ­ing about var­i­ous as­pects of the Mal­tese no­bil­ity since the late 1970s and signed copies of his lat­est book The Peer­age and Knigh­tage in Malta will be on sale af­ter the talk. The Peer­age is packed with de­tails about Mal­tese no­bil­ity (with full in­for­ma­tion about each ti­tle), about the two Mal­tese Prince-Car­di­nals, about con­nec­tions be­tween the Bri­tish peer­age and barone­tage and Malta as well as the bone fide for­eign ti­tles to be found in Malta.

The lec­ture will be held on Wed­nes­day, 14 Novem­ber at 6.30pm at the Phoeni­cia Ho­tel, Flo­ri­ana. Par­tic­i­pants are re­quested to be seated by 6.15pm. The lec­ture will be con­ducted in English.
