In a clash between two sides from the Second Division League, Melita managed to beat Siggiewi 3-1 to advance to the fourth round of the competition.
After eliminating First Division side Swieqi in the previous round, melita made another step forward yesterday moving in the last sixteen of the competition, were they now face an uphill task in the fourth round as they face Premier League leaders Gzira United.
Melita’s hero yesterday was striker Luke Mifsud who scored two goals to lift his side past lowly Siggiewi.
Luke Mifsud opened the account four minutes before the break and put melita’s minds at rest seven minutes from time sealing the issue with his side’s third goal.
After taking a first half lead Melita doubled the score through Karl Mohnanin half way through the second half, but Siggiewi did not throw in the towel as they pulled one back through Kim Buhagiar on 76 minutes.
However Luke Micallef’s second goal killed off Siggiewi’s hopes of sending the game to extra time.
