St.George’s: Referee: Scorers:

After several attempts in the past few seasons, even losing a promotion play-off, Zejtun seem to have found the right track to land a place time for the first time ever in the top flight of Maltese football.

Zejtun yesterday registered their fourth successive victory, beating St. George’s with a goal in each half to move to just one point from league leaders Lija who yesterday suffered a second defeat.

To be fair yesterday’s performance was not one of the best for Zejtun, but this could be a good omen because they were still good enough to grab the three points at stake.

The Saints elected to defend for long stretches and Zejtun found the going hard especially in the first part of the game, in which Zejtun held long possession of the ball but were frankly rarely dangerous.

A penalty seven minutes from the break broke the deadlock for Zejtun, and the second goal four minutes into the second half practically sealed the issue.

After their second goal Zejtun produced their best patch with Ogunnupe very effective with his powerful runs.

For the Saints it was a rather disappoinint afternoon as they languish dangerously in the lower positions of the standings.

Perdomo and Caruana had an off day and the Cottonera side had nothing to offer in attack.
