Training for Clinical Practitioners

The Institute of Family TherapyMalta (IFT-Malta) is introducing a new training programme for professionals – the award in Clinical Supervision. The course, which is due to commence in January 2020, is directed at warranted health care and allied health professionals working in the fields of psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, psychiatry, social work, etc. It is ideal for those involved in clinical practice and who have been in such practice for a minimum of two years, post qualification.

The award in Clinical Supervision places an emphasis on the understanding of the complexity of a supervisory multi-layered context, focusing on the importance of transference and countertransference. Offering a trans-modal approach to supervision, sessions will deal with core themes on the subject, thus meeting the needs of varied professionals, professions and caseloads.

The training is comprised of four modules distributed over six weekend blocks which are spread over nine months. The award in Clinical Supervision, which is being offered by IFT-Malta, is the first of its kind, and is, like all IFTMalta training courses, fully accredited by the National Commission for Further and Higher Education (NCFHE). This training is also in line with the European Psychotherapy Associations and International Psychotherapy Associations standards of supervision practice, while also meeting the training criteria of the local Board for the Psychotherapy Profession. The course will be delivered by local and foreign tutors and is open to a limited number of applicants.
