Reconstruction of Triq il-Ferrovija l-Qadima complete
Work on Triq il-Ferrovija l-Qadima in Balzan, one of the longest residential roads on the island, is now complete.
Around two kilometres of underground pipes and cables were have been laid beneath the road, which connects Balzan and Birkirkara, together with new foundations, 1.5 kilometres of pavement on both sides, and the reconstruction of a service road at the De Paule Avenue junction.
“It will soon be a year since we launched the residential roads project – an unprecedented project and a pledge to revolutionise our country’s road infrastructure. We are delivering on this promise, from rural and residential roads to the country’s arterial roads,” said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg while visiting the site.
According to the minister, many roads around Malta are being repaired for the first time. Such roads, he said, must be completely rebuilt. He also described the amount of preparation that goes into a project, including consultation exercises carried out with service entities and local councils.
“Infrastructural projects now go beyond laying tarmac over a terrible road. We are committed to delivering quality infrastructure. We are also committed to working holistically and in phases to avoid causing unnecessary inconvenience. We are committed to delivering what the country’s residents deserve: well-planned, high-standard projects and, above all, a better quality of life,” concluded Minister Borg.
