LifeCycle funds the annual expenditure to run
Donations from Nescafé 3in1 LifeCycle Challenge 2019 are funding the annual expenditure for the current year of the data base programme Traccia at the Renal Unit, Mater Dei Hospital.
This is the third consecutive year that LifeCycle will be funding the data base and waiting list management programme of patients active on the Kidney Transplant waiting list. Traccia is based on an algorithm subjected to several requisites which is frequently updated. Blood samples are taken periodically from patients that are active on the kidney waiting list, along with other important information, so that the right match for the renal patient compatible with the kidney donor is achieved.
“This is an advance in organ transplants in Malta. Until recent years, the waiting list management was based on the patient’s waiting time. Now that all the dynamics are being considered, together with tissue typing, Traccia provides the best possible match, irrelevant from the waiting time only approach,” said Prof Emanuel Farrugia, Consultant and Head of the Renal Unit at Mater Dei Hospital.

We fund the running costs of this software programme and we are grateful to learn that a number of patients have received a kidney transplant after their blood composition was found to be compatible with the donated organ,” said LifeCycle Founder Alan Curry.
