The Minister for Education and Employment Owen Bonnici met with the president of the History Teachers’ Association Prof. Joanne Vella, to launch the book, History teaching in Malta, which is a commemorative publication to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their association.
Minister Bonnici said: “I was very pleased to be asked to launch their new book on history teaching in Malta entitled History teaching in Malta on the threshold of the 21st century. This publication is in fact fully sponsored by the Ministry of Education. It is essential that history teaching in our schools is sustained. I therefore take the occasion to congratulate all the members of the
History Teachers Association for their relentless efforts and hard work to safeguard history teaching and learning in our schools.”
Prof. Vella thanked the minister for his help in making this book possible and showed her appreciation towards all the work that was put in to publish the book. She explained how “this is a commemorative publication to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the History Teachers' Association. This association came into existence in 1995 and has since been an important player in the development of history teaching and learning in Malta. This book consists of a collection of chapters that bring together an up-to-date account of what is happening in history education today on our islands”.
