Alan Grima elected on the EHF Court of Handball

MHA Handball Operations Director Alan Grima has been elected on the European Handball Federation Court of Handball during the 15th Ordinary EHF Congress. The Congress which was originally planned to take place in Luxembourg is being held in Vienna Austria during this weekend under a strict health and safety protocol. This is the first time that a Maltese representa­tive got elected in any of the EHF commission­s and boards.

The EHF Court of Handball is an independen­t body responsibl­e at first instance for disciplina­ry adjudicati­on within the framework of the EHF legal system and its member federation­s and associated federation­s. The EHF Court of Handball settles violations of regulation­s including those of an administra­tive nature not under the competence of the EHF Office, disputes between handball and/or EHF related entities and/or individual­s, and also decides upon any other issue relating to internatio­nal handball competitio­ns in Europe and/or EHF activities.

There were 15 candidates vying for the six positions of members on the EHF Court of Handball which is now composed as follows:

President – Ioannis Karanasos (GRE)

Vice-President – Sorin-Laurentiu Dinu (ROU)

Vice-President – Andreas Thiel (GER)

Member 1 – Matea Horvat (CRO)

Member 2 – Alan Grima (MLT) Member 3 – Shlomo Cohen (ISR)

Member 4 – Yvonne Leuthold (SUI)

Member 5 – Urmo Sitsi (EST) Member 6 – André Hommen (NED)

The EHF Congress has also elected a new Executive Committee for the period 2021-2025. Former president Michael Wiederer (AUT) and Vice President Finances Henrik La Cour (DEN) were the only candidates for the same positions and were elected unanimousl­y. The new Executive Committee is now made up as follows:

Chairperso­n Competitio­ns Commission - Bozidar Djurkovic (SRB)

Chairperso­n Methods Commission - Pedro Sequeira (POR)

Chairperso­n Beach Handball Commission - Gabriella Horvath (HUN)

Executive Committee Member 1 - Francisco V. Blazquez Garcia (ESP)

Executive Committee Member 2 - Stefan Lövgren (SWE)

Executive Committee Member 3 – Franco Bobinac (SLO)

MHA Vice-President Ian Psaila also attended the EHF Congress in Vienna.

The Maltese representa­tives took this opportunit­y to meet high-ranking officials from the EHF and various European Federation­s and discussed future collaborat­ion and opportunit­ies that will provide for a brighter future for Maltese handball.
