APS Bank recognises colleagues’ sporting achievemen­ts

APS Bank employees continued to participat­e in various sporting activities throughout 2022. At the latest Townhall held in December, several awards were presented to recognise these sporting achievemen­ts.

The APS Bank Bowling Team won its category in the Malta Employees Sports Associatio­n (MESA) Bowling Tournament.

The APS Bank Cycling Team completed a 4-day, 400 km cycling challenge in Eastern Sicily, collecting over €2000 in donations for the APS Provident Fund.

The APS Bank Football Team was recognised for winning the IFR Tournament earlier this year, with Norbert Bartolo receiving an award for his 20 years of commitment to the team.

Aaron Mifsud broke two national running records and participat­ed in various races locally and internatio­nally, closing the year by winning the over 40 ‘Athlete of the Year 2022’ by Athletics Malta.

The Sports Activities Committee also organised the APS Bank Athlete of the Year Award 2022 with staff members voting for the following nominees:

Zachary Cassar and Peter Paul Sammut, who play for Floriana FC and Marsaxlokk FC respective­ly in the Malta Premier League; Gabriella Mangion, who participat­ed in several Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) races, locally and overseas; Vanessa Mizzi, who competed in various Cross Fit activities and obtained the Cross Fit Level 1 Trainer Licence; while

Nicole Ellul plays handball with Kavallieri Handball Club, and also forms part of the U24 Handball National Team. Gabriella was voted winner of the first APS Bank Athlete of the Year Award, with Peter Paul and Zachary placing second and third place, respective­ly.

Etienne Vella, Chairman of the Sports Committee presented these awards during the Townhall with the rest of the Committee Members. He said, “We are very proud of the sports achievemen­ts of our colleagues. Special thanks go to the Bank’s senior management who support the Committee in organising sports events during the year and help in assisting the athletes to achieve such results.”
