Poker by Birkirkara against helpless Nadur

- SIMON FARRUGIA

Birkirkara found the going easy against Gozitan side Nadur Youngsters winning by a clear 4‐0 margin and thus making it to the last sixteen of the Izibet FA Trophy.

The Stripes dominated from the kick off with the Youngsters rarely venturing forward.

On 11 minutes a diagonal shot by Osvaldo Iorio found the cor‐ ner of the net for Birkirkara’s opener. This was the start the Stripes had hoped for and eight minutes later Sultana had to be on the alert to turn over onto a corner a Kurt Zammit cross shot.

Birkirkara kept piling on the pressure and six minutes from the break Zammit found Yankam but the latters shot was turned onto a corner by goal‐ keeper Sultana. But barely a minute later the Yellows dou‐ bled their lead when Sultana could do nothing to stop a low shot by Yankam from hitting the net.

The second half was on the same pattern of the first forty five minutes. In the 47th minute a dangerous cross by Enzo Cabrera hit the woodwork be‐ fore being cleared to safety.

Birkirkara scored their third goal on 51 minutes. Zammit sent a low cross which was met by Alex Da Paixao Alves whose low drive gave Sultana no chance at all. Goal scoring op‐ portunities kept coming for the Stripes and in the 59th minute they once again hit the wood‐ work this time through Simon Zibo.

Just past the hour mark it was Paul Mbong’s turn to try his luck but Sultana saved. With Birkirkara rounding off a re‐ markable win on 67 minutes through substitute Kevin Tulimieri who after making his way past two defenders fired the ball home.
