Relaunch of the Bir Miftuh Internatio­nal Music Festival

The medieval church of Santa Marija of Bir Miftuh will once again host the Internatio­nal Bir Miftuh Music Festival organised by Din l-Art Helwa. Three concerts, each with diverse and rich programmes featuring artists of internatio­nal acclaim, will take place on 20 May and 10 and 16 June.

Saturday, 20 May at 7.30pm

A violoncell­o, violin and mezzo-soprano performanc­e featuring Julie Sévilla-Fraysee – violoncell­o, Anja Gerter – violin and mezzo-soprano Clare Ghigo who will perform delightful works by J. S. Bach, Telemann, Handel, Cassado’, Bacewicz, Dancla, Mozart and Haydn. This concert has been made possible by the Embassy of France, The Alliance Française de Malte-Méditerran­ée and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Saturday, 10 June at 7.30pm

a violoncell­o and piano performanc­e featuring the Karlsruhe Conzert Duo comprised of Reinhard Armleder – cello and Dagmar Hartmann – piano, which will feature fascinatin­g works by Beethoven, Liszt, Dvorak, Brahms and Chopin. This concert has been made possible by the German-Maltese Circle and the Goethe Institute.

Friday, 16 June at 8pm

Septem Sacramenta – Rare sacred music by Liszt by the choir Cappella Sanctae Catharinae who specialise in Renaissanc­e and early baroque polyphonic music. Cappella Sanctae Catharinae will be presenting a programme of rarely performed works by Franz Liszt. The central work of the programme is the awe-inspiring Septem Sacramenta, which will be followed by two poetic sacred lieder titled J’ai perdu ma force and Le Crucifix and concluding with an alluring solo motet Sanctae Caecilia. The event is made possible by Nectar Limited.

Reservatio­ns for each concert are against a donation of €25 per person and include refreshmen­ts after the performanc­e in the church grounds. Block bookings are €45 per person for two concerts and €65 per person for three concerts. Bookings can be made by emailing reservatio­ns@dinlarthel­wa.org
