Festivals Malta announces the 20 semi-finalist songs for ‘Mużika Mużika 2024’
The fourth edition of Mużika Mużika will take place between 14 and 16 March
Festivals Malta announced that the 20 songs that will be competing in the semi-final evening of Mużika Mużika 2024 were chosen on 19 November. The 40 songs that passed the first eliminatory phase were performed live, accompanied by a backing track, before a separate jury from that of the previous eliminatory phase. After careful deliberation on each song presented, the 20 semi-finalist songs were chosen in the presence of the government notary.
Festivals Malta CEO, Frans Agius said: “Like every year, Mużika Mużika has received a very positive response. As in previous years, the submissions we received were of a very high-calibre and it was not easy for the independent jury to select the 20 semi-finalist songs for the next edition. I am proud that this prestigious festival is contributing so that the Maltese song is given the importance it deserves.
Mużika Mużika is part of the Festivals Malta portfolio and I have no doubt that, like other years, this edition will be another great success.”
Mużika Mużika chairman, Raymond Bugeja, commented on the quality of the festival, which is always improving with each edition. “We have reached the fourth edition of Mużika Mużika and I can wholeheartedly say that each edition is becoming better than the previous one. After the live auditions we had, I can say that the level is constantly increasing and I’m excited to see these songs performed on our fantastic stage next March.”
Mużika Mużika’s artistic director, Paul Abela, spoke on the level of songs that are being submitted, and how Mużika Mużika is introducing a different song style to its audiences. “Although conventional styles were and will remain popular in a festival like Mużika Mużika, with each passing year Maltese artists are experimenting and searching for ways to propose something new and, we are receiving more songs with various musical genres. The good thing about this festival is that it introduces us to these compositions that in turn help us appreciate the beauty of the Maltese language in song. I wish the semi-finalists the best of luck for the next edition.“
Now, the Mużika Mużika board, together with the Festivals Malta team, will enter the next phase of production, as work begins on musical arrangements while focusing more on the logistical preparations for the festival, which will be held between 14 and 16 March.
