3 of England's Women's World Cup finalists receive New Year's honours

Three of the England team who reached the Women's World Cup final in Sydney have been hon‐ ored in King Charles' New Year's honors list.

Millie Bright, who captained the team in the absence of fellow defender Leah Williamson, re‐ ceived the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) while goalkeeper Mary Earps and for‐ ward Lauren Hemp were made Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE).

England lost the final to Spain 1‐0.

World Rugby chairman Bill Beaumont's knighthood was up‐ graded to a Knight Grand Cross.

Christian Horner, the team principal and chief executive of Formula One's Red Bull Racing, and former England cricketer Stuart Broad received Com‐ mander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

Horner's team won the con‐ structors' championship and Max Verstappen won the drivers' title.

Broad retired after the last Ashes test in the summer and he bowed out in stunning fashion by hitting a six off his final ball and taking the match‐winning wicket as England levelled the series at the Oval.

The charity work of former rugby league teammates Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow was recognized by CBEs for services to motor neurone disease aware‐ ness.

Sinfield has raised more than 15 million pounds since his friend Burrow was diagnosed with incurable MND in Decem‐ ber 2019.

Just this month, Sinfield com‐ pleted seven ultramarathons in seven cities in as many days.

"The bravery and courage that Rob and his amazing family have shown as he is fighting MND is wonderful," Sinfield said. "To open the front door and to show the world what it's like to live with it, he's been incredible."

Another MND fundraiser, Rob Wainwright, received an OBE. Wainwright raised funds for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation of former Scotland rugby union teammate Doddie Weir, who was diagnosed with MND in 2016 and died last year.
