MONGOLIAN HOCKEY TEAM CLAIMS SILVER AT ICE HOCKEY CHALLENGE CUP OF ASIA
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) organized its 2017 Ice Hockey Challenge Cup of Asia in Bangkok, Thailand from March 17 to 23.
The Mongolian team played against United Arab Emirates for gold medal on March 23 and lost 4:5. This is the first silver Mongolia claimed from the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia.
The gold medal went to United Arab Emirates, and Thailand settled for a bronze medal.
The first match of the Mongolian team was against Singapore, held on March 17, and ended with a victory for the Mongolian team 13:0.
Mongolia won its second and third matches against Thailand and Malaysia on March 20 and 21.
Mongolia brought a bronze medal from last year’s Challenge Cup of Asia. Currently, the Mongolian team has won four bronze and one silver medals in total from the tournament.
The Mongolian national hockey team made its international debut at the 1999 Asian Winter Games. The team did not participate in any International Ice Hockey Federation tournaments until the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Championship Division III tournament.
