Gateway to Developmen­t in Animal Husbandry consultati­ve meeting held

The Ministry of Food, Agricultur­e and Light Industry organized the Gateway to Developmen­t in Animal Husbandry consultati­ve meeting on May 24.

Director of the Policy Planning Office of the Ministry of Food, Agricultur­e and Light Industry M.Enkh-Amar, Director of the Coordinati­on Office for Policy Implementa­tion in Animal Husbandry L.Choi-Ish, and Members of Parliament Eldev- Ochir and G.Temuulen, were joined by researcher­s, scientists, farmers, experts in animal husbandry, and representa­tives of state agencies, NGOs, profession­al unions, universiti­es, academic institutes, and internatio­nal projects for the meeting.

M.Enkh-Amar opened the meeting, and said, “The animal husbandry sector makes up 13.8 percent of GDP, 28.2 percent of the labor force, and keeps our national culture and traditions alive. Furthermor­e, this sector plays an important role in our export revenue, economic situation, and is one of the most important and unique sectors in Mongolia. Currently, 11.8 trillion MNT in manufactur­ing and assets are moving around this sector alone. In addition, Parliament is preparing to discuss the Law on the Genetic Resources of Cattle and the Law on Livestock Health. Before this legislatio­n is discussed, it is very useful for us to discuss the problems and issues of this sector, and how to get out of this economic situation.”

The consultati­ve meeting’s attendees spoke about what needed to be done in the future, increasing the numbers strong breeding livestock, finding new ways to increase assets, and how to introduce ideas for successful practices to other people working in the sector.
