Schedule for open discussions on constitutional amendments announced

-

A task force in charge of constitutional amendments held a press briefing on July 24 to announce schedules for open discussions to listen to people’s opinions regarding constitutional amendments.

Head of the task force on constitutional amendments D.Lundeejantsan said that every Mongolian citizen is eligible to submit their proposals for constitutional amendments to the Parliament’s State Structure Standing Committee (PSSC) through the citizens' representative councils of districts, provinces, and soums or post offices, or at the open discussions.

By September 10, all citizens' representative councils must submit proposals from the public to the PSSC, but every single person’s proposal needs to be sent to the PSSC.

D.Lundeejantsan emphasized that open regional discussions will be organized in several different groups by dividing 21 provinces into groups based on their location. Bayankhongor, Govi-Altai and Zavkhan provinces have been grouped together and their open discussions will take place from July 31 to August 11. Khovd, Bayan-Ulgii and Uvs provinces will organize their discussions from August 7 to 20. Bulgan, Arkhangai and Khuvsgul provinces; Darkhan, Selenge and Orkhon provinces; and Dundgovi, Govisumber and Dornogovi provinces will hold their discussions from August 14 to 27. Khentii, Dornod, and Sukhbaatar provinces will organize their discussions from July 31 to August 13. Tuv, Uvurkhangai and Umnugovi provinces’ discussions will take place from August 7 to 20.

D.Lundeejantsan added that open discussions for Sukhbaatar and Bayanzurkh districts will take place from August 15 to 18; discussions in Chingeltei and Bayangol districts will take place from August 21 to 25; and KhanUul, Songinokhairkhan, Nalaikh, Baganuur and Bagakhangai districts will organize open discussions from August 28 to 31.

After regional discussions, second and third discussions will take place in khoroos and bagas.

Over 2,000 discussions will take place in provinces, soums, bagas, discticts and khoroos, so the task force called on every Mongolian citizen to present their opinions on constitutional amendments by actively participating in discussions in their areas.

Mongolians living abroad are eligible to submit their opinions on constitutional amendments to the PSSC through Parliament’s website.
