PRESIDENT AWARDS THE ORDER OF POLAR STAR TO BELGIAN DIRECTOR PETER BROSENS
President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga has issued a decree to award Belgian film director Peter Brosens with the Order of Polar Star, the highest prize awarded to a foreigner by Mongolia.
Chief of Staff of the President Z.Enkhbold presented the prize to Brosens on October 11.
The presidential decree states, “In recognition of his high contributions to development of the Mongolian film industry and promotion of Mongolian history, culture and lifestyle to the world through films, Belgian film director Peter Brosens is hereby awarded the Order of Polar Star, a state prize of Mongolia.”
Brosens has made valuable contributions in promoting Mongolia’s film industry to the world by creating his internationally acclaimed “Mongolian Trilogy”, consisting of the documentaries “City of the Steppes” (1993), “State of Dogs” (1998) and “Poets of Mongolia” (1999), in collaboration with Mongolian filmmakers. The trilogy was competed in a total of 170 film festivals and received 30 awards.
In 2006, he created “Khadak” film with Mongolian artists, which received 60 awards from international film festivals. “Khadak” won the highest prize of the 63rd Venice International Film Festival, the Golden Lion, and received the state prize of Belgium.
Brosens is currently participating in the Ulaanbaatar International Film Festival and will be screening three of his films at the festival.
The Belgium director is considered one of the leading film directors in Europe, has won 75 awards from 370 film festivals to date.
