President addresses Parliament
On the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the Restoration of Independence of Mongolia, President Kh.Battulga gave a speech to Parliament on December 28.
“Mongolians created an unforgettable history. Our ancestors once ruled the world to make the planet a safer and peaceful place, but Mongolians faced 200 years of oppression and a threat of being forgotten,” President Kh.Battulga said.
“As Mongolians led by the notable descendants of Chinggis Khaan declared the nation’s independence on the 29th of December in 1911 at the place which is now Ulaanbaatar, surrounded by Khan-Uul Mountain and Khatan Tuul River, we must commemorate this historical day.”
He stressed, “Historians and scholars prove that Mongolians had sensibly and wisely captured the opportunity which provided favorable international circumstances to implement their intentions for rebuilding independence and national freedom. In doing so, our predecessors still maintained the core values and traditions of Mongolian statehood. A lot of Mongolians who resided in then-Russia and China received great pleasure with the announcement of independence.”
“The distinguished personalities had made many sacrifices to strengthen mutual understanding between the newfound Mongolia and China, which separated after the Qing Dynasty along with Mongolians, as well as for maintaining the long-standing friendship with the Imperial Russia, establishing agreements, sending ambassadors to other countries and having them to recognize Mongolia’s independence.”
The President added, “After the country became an independent state, history indicates that people who committed crimes of abusing the supreme political positions for one’s personal gains, engaged in corruption and violated laws were punished at the time. That means the Mongolian state kept the nation’s historic statehood principles, so we must remember and respect that they built a state which embodied justice and discipline. As history is a combination of achievements and mistakes, which refers to a train that is heading to the future passing through the past and present, all historical actions help us make further wise decisions.”
“At that time, there were some selfish political leaders who engaged in outside political influence and put their personal interests first instead of putting the national interests first, but the Treaty of Kyakhta established in 1915 destroyed those illegal actions,” the President stated, and claimed that we must “remember hasty decisions and faults from the past”.
He concluded his speech by saying, “May the Eternal Blue Sky always watch over the Mongolian state and may the country thrive forever.”
