A. D. Tsendinar named Best Mongolist of 2017
Mongolian and Tibetan philology and historiography professor A. D. Tsendina was awarded the Best Mongolist prize of the International Association for Mongol Studies on December 28, following a presidential decree.
The prize was presented by Director of the Institute of History and Archeology at the Mongolian Academy of Science S.Chuluun along with a cash prize of 10,000 USD for her research.
A. D. Tsendina is an esteemed professor at the Faculty of Humanities of the Institute for Oriental and Classical Studies of the Russian State University for the Humanities. She is also the daughter of Ts.Damdinsuren, one of the founders of Mongolian contemporary literature who received the Best Academician title three times and became the first laureate of Folk Artist title.
The President of Mongolia and the International Association for Mongol Studies named her the Best Mongolist of 2017 in recognition of her valuable contribution to translating “Ikh Shar”, one of the five 17th-century Mongolian Chronicles based on ancient rulers. She also published a summary of the entire series of Ts.Damdinsuren’s “Erdmiin Buteel”, and published B.Ya.Vladimirtsov’s letters and documents related to Mongolian studies, which had never been released to the public.
A. D. Tsendina has been teaching the Mongolian history, language, and literature to new generations of Mongolists in Russia since the early 2000s.
