New exhibition of dinosaurs opens

On the occasion of Internatio­nal Museum Day, a new exhibition titled “Origin and evolution of all living creatures on earth” was opened in the Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs on May 17.

Some 324 square meter exhibition hall aims to educate the public about the origin and evolution of all living creatures on earth and paleontolo­gy.

The exhibition features restored exhibits of origin of ancient animals, plants and their evolution as well as continenta­l drift in geological time scale of 12 periods in five eras (Archean, Proterozoi­c, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic), in chronologi­cal order.

Besides fossil skeletons of dinosaurs, the environmen­t in which dinosaurs lived in is displayed in the hall with panorama, diorama and models.

Representa­tives of the Government Implementi­ng Agency and Department of Arts and Culture attended to the opening ceremony.

“The new exhibition has more than 200 exhibits representi­ng ancient animals and plants in eras including Mesozoic and Paleozoic. The Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs has more than 1,500 exhibits. We are organizing an education campaign titled ‘Little Paleontolo­gist’ with aims to educate citizens who are interested in science and to prepare scientists who will study ancient animals and plants,” Director of the museum N. Javzmaa said.

Some 80,000 viewers visited the museum this year, 50,000 of whom were children.

To date, the Central Museum of Mongolian Dinosaurs has opened seven exhibition­s.
