180 people dispatched to fight wildfire in Selenge
Over 180 emergency workers and volunteers have been fighting wildfire in Sharlangiin Gol in Yuruu soum of Selenge Province for almost a week.
The National Emergency Management Agency, Special Rescue Unit, emergency departments of Ulaanbaatar, Selenge and Darkhan-Uul provinces, and the Authority of Khan Khentii Strictly Protected Area have been sending reinforcements since the fire broke out on May 17.
By May 21, the team managed to contain spread of the fire around the northern and western sides. NEMA reported that rainfall on May 20 helped considerably to contain the fire, but strong winds and large trees around the area are slowing down the process.
Deputy Head of NEMA B.Uuganbayar, Deputy Minister of Environment, Green Development and Tourism Ts.Batbayar and Head of Ulaanbaatar Environment and Tourism Office B.Oyunsanaa flew to Sharlangiin Gol on a helicopter yesterday to deliver food and other necessities to people assisting firefighting efforts.
