Child helpline 108 to reach wider audience
The Family, Child and Youth Development Agency inked a cooperation memorandum with World Vision Mongolia and Mobicom Corporation on Monday to improve and broaden services of Child Helpline 108.
Head of the agency O.Altansukh noted, “Our Child Helpline 108 operates 24 hours a day, receives more than 10,000 calls a month, and promptly assists children whose rights were violated. Last year, our agency built a shelter and purchased a vehicle for the helpline with assistance and support from public and private organizations, as well as international organizations.
Today (May 21), we’re extending our cooperation agreement with two organizations for the good of children in Mongolia.”
“Children are very sensitive and fragile. Precisely for this reason, they need the help and assistance from adults. It’s very important for children to feel safe and secure in their homes,” Chairman and CEO of MobiCom Corporation Tatsuya Hamada stated before underlining that their support to Child Helpline 108 is an investment for future generations.
A representative from World Vision Mongolia emphasized the significance of partnership for any project and said, “I’m happy that we’re able to give the hope that there are people who can and want to help the thousands of children calling Child Helpline 108. We will continue to strive to make our helpline the best in the world.”
This year, the helpline reformed its software, trained its staff, started online chat, launched consultation via SMS service, took measures to shorten response time, and is trying to become more approachable and reachable to children in need, according to O.Altansukh.
The Child Helpline 108 received 144,869 calls in 2017 and transferred 3,173 of the cases to regional family, child and youth development divisions. It was reported that 63 percent of the transferred cases have been resolved and 1,392 are being processed.
