MPP to hold accountability to those involved in the ‘60 billion MNT’ scandal

- By T.BAYARBAT

On Friday, Head of the Mongolian People’s Party’s (MPP) review committee D.Batbaatar held a press conference about the outcomes from the committee’s meeting held on August 2 and 3.

At the press conference, D.Batbaatar underlined that the committee’s members agreed that former Head of Ulaanbaatar’s MPP Ts.Sandui and former advisor in charge of financial affairs to Ulaanbaatar’s MPP A.Ganbaatar put forward a proposal to raise money for campaign finance by selling government positions before a parliamentary election to then-Chairman of MPP M.Enkhbold, but the proposal was rejected by M.Enkhbold.

Even though the proposal was not put into practice, the review committee decided to hold accountability to M.Enkhbold, Ts.Sandui and A.Ganbaatar as the committee’s members believe that they violated ethics.

D.Batbaatar noted that in response to a complaint about Khovd Province’s Deputy Mayor Sh.Batsukh from the province’s MPP, the committee reviewed the complaint.

He said, “As Sh.Batsukh was witnessed making financial vows to win favor at a party conference, the review committee agreed that Sh.Batsukh violated the party’s constitution, and decided to put forward a proposal to ban Sh.Batsukh from serving in the state and retract the party’s support for a period of time.”

D.Batbaatar stressed that the review committee made resolutions to improve ethics and responsibilities of the party’s members who were appointed in government positions with support of the party’s board; to hold a meeting of the capital’s MPP branch to elect a new capital city party chairman; bolster the operations of the party’s units across the country; and hold accountability to heads of some provinces’ government offices who violated ethics.

He added that decisions from the meeting will be presented to the party board during a board meeting on August 6.
